Basketball wins 7th in a row

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team started off 2014 the same way they finished 2013, with a win. They held off a Bridgewater College 2nd-half rally to win 71-68. Quantashea Lewis (Hartford, CT) had a monster game with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Salem improves to 7-3, while Bridgewater falls to 2-7 overall.

The Spirits controlled most of the first-half and went into the break with a 40-30 advantage. Bridgewater started the second-half with a 23-10 run to take a 53-50 lead. The Eagles would hold a three-point lead with 44 seconds remaining, when Satavia Taylor (Chicago, IL) hit a key three. After Salem stole the in-bound pass, Jasmine Shabazz hit a two from eight-feet out to give Salem the lead.

Salem held a 42-33 rebounding advantage for the game. The Spirits were 5-10 from behind the three-point line. Taylor finished with 25 points,4 steals, and 8 rebounds. 

The Spirits hit the road on Tuesday as they head to Emory and Henry in Virginia.
