ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference has announced the women's basketball Player of the Week for games played January 27 - February 2 and, following voting by the league's sports information directors, Salem's Satavia Taylor claimed the weekly award for the third time this season.

GSAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week - Satavia Taylor of Salem

Taylor came up big for Salem as they notched two more wins against tough ODAC opponents before losing an epic buzzer beater to Apprentice. In their rematch against Methodist University, who had beaten the Spirits twice last year, Taylor helped Salem capture a convincing 80-58 win by scoring a game high 24 points to go along with 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 5 steals. In a battle to beat Washington & Lee University, the Chicago native pulled in a another double-double for the Spirits as she stepped up her defense swatting away 6 blocks, snatching 16 rebounds and adding 11 points, 2 steals, and an assist. Lastly, against Apprentice, Taylor willed in yet another double-double. The Spirits came up short on a banked-in half court buzzer-beater that snapped their 16 game win streak and made national news as the #No. 2 play on ESPN's Top 10 Plays. Taylor made a valiant effort with 18 points, 14 rebounds, 1 block and a steal. Overall, Taylor averaged 18 points, 14 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, 3 steals, and 2 assists per game in a stellar week of action.

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
