Shabazz selected as GSAC Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference has announced the women's basketball Player of the Week for games played January 20 - 26 and, following voting by the league's sports information directors, Salem's Jasmine Shabazz claimed the weekly award.

Shabazz spearheaded the Spirit attack as Salem won two more contests over Warren Wilson and Wesleyan to extend their school record winning streak to 14 games. Against Warren Wilson, Shabazz scored 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting to go along 10 rebounds in her double-double effort. Against Wesleyan, Shabazz tallied 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting and again dominated the boards with 13 rebounds. She averaged 16.5 points per game and 11.5 rebounds per game while shooting 66.6% from the field in the process.

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
