WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Satavia Taylor had game-highs in points (27), rebounds (10) and steals (5) in Salem College’s 69-50 win over nonconference opponent Washington Adventist University Tuesday in the Spirit Center.

The Spirits and the Shock had four turnovers apiece after three and a half minutes of play. The low-scoring first half continued in this fashion - the teams trading turnovers, fouls and buckets. With 10:00 left on the clock, the score was 11-7 in favor of Salem. The score was 29-25 at the half.

Salem came out strong in the second half and never turned back. The Spirits shot 60% from beyond the arc in the second, compared to 28.6% in the first. They also shot 50% from the floor. Missed free throws riddled both teams. The Shock were 1-for-11 from the stripe for the game, while the Spirits were 5-for-12.

Salem’s Jasmine Shabazz had 13 points. Quantashea Lewis added eight points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes. Bianca Ritchwood had a game-high four assists.

Three Shock players scored double-figures. Rashawnda Carter paced Washington Adventist with 14 points. Re’gene Watson and Courtney Cayard added 10 points apiece. Watson also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

The Spirits next play at Bennett College, Thursday at 6:00 pm. They return home January 25 when they play host to Wesleyan College at 2:00 pm.
