Taylor wins fourth GSAC Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference has announced the women's basketball Player of the Week for games played February 3 - 9 and, following voting by

the league's sports information directors, Salem's Satavia Taylor claimed the weekly award for the second straight week and fourth time this season.

Once again, Taylor (pictured at right) put on a shooting clinic over a 3 game stretch this week for the Spirits.  In the first match, Taylor shot 10-12 from the field, 5-7 from behind the arc, and 4-4 from the free throw line for a total of 29 points along with 8 rebounds, 2 blocks,  3 steals, and 1 assist in only 20 minutes of play for a win over Bennett College.  Taylor followed that up going 11-23 from the field, 12-25  from 3FG, and 6-8 from the FT line in 24 minutes of action tallying up a 31 point, 11 rebound, 4 block, and 2 assist performance as she helped Salem to an 85-45 win over GSAC opponent Agnes Scott.   Rounding out the week, Taylor continued on a shooting spree scoring 30 points (11-19) in the FIRST half as the Spirits defeated yet another GSAC opponent, Wesleyan, 84-35.  Taylor’s stat line against Wesleyan included a double- double of 32 points (12-25 FG, 6-11 3FG, 2-3 FT) 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 1 assist in 24 minutes of competition.   With a 3-0 win streak for the week, Taylor continued to get better averaging 31 ppg, 10 rpg, 3bpg overall helping Salem College cap off their season.

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
