Basketball falls short at Virginia Wesleyan

Virginia Beach, VA-Despite a season-high 71 points, Virginia Wesleyan was too much for Salem basketball last night in an 85-71 game. Zykeya Henderson, Kristal Lollis, and Quantashea Lewis all scored double-digit points for Salem. The Spirits fall to 1-9, while Virginia Wesleyan improved to 8-4.

Virginia Wesleyan jumpedout to an 18-8 lead in the first 5 minutes. They would increase their lead to 54-33 with 3 minutes left in the half. Salem battled back at the end of the half and went on a 7-0 run to finish the half. The Spirits got as close as 7 points in the 2nd half when they cut the lead to 65-58 with 12:30 remaining in an even half.

Henderson led the team with 19 points. Lollis had 18 points and 9 rebounds, and Lewis finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Alexihonna Bush led Salem with 3 steals and she added 8 points. 

The Spirits play their most important game so far this season on Saturday when they host Great South rival Agnes Scott at 2:00.
