Basketball loses 2OT Heart-Breaker at Roanoke

Roanoke, VA-In a game of several doubles, Salem lost in double overtime at Roanoke 82-77. The Spirits battled back from a 14-point deficit to force the two overtimes. Kristal Lollis and Quantashea Lewis each had double-doubles for Salem. The Spirits fall to 3-11, while Roanoke improves to 7-11.

Roanoke held a 33-21 lead with 1:35 left in the first-half. The Spirits were able to go on a 7-0 run to close out the half, including a buzzer beating three-pointer by Hannah McBride to end the half.

The Maroons advance the lead to 49-35 with 12:24 left. Salem clawed back and Lollis hit a key three to tie the game at 64 with 27 seconds left. The first overtime was a defensive battle. The Spirits jumped to a 3 point lead in the second overtime, but Roanoke was able to hit some key free-throws down the stretch for the win.

Lewis had 30 points and 12 rebounds before she fouled out. Lollis had 22 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Alexihonna Bush added 10 points and a block. Hannah McBride led the team with 3 steals. 

Salem returns to non-conference action this weekend at Hollins.
