Lewis earns GSAC All-Conference Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the 2014-15 Women's Basketball All-Conference award winners at a banquet held in Atlanta for the coaches and players on Friday evening. Quntashea Lewis was selected to the all-conference team, while Hannah McBride earned GSAC All-Sportsmanship Honors. Kristal Lollis and Ashlen Rector each earned GSAC All-Academic Honors.

Lewis is leading the Spirits with 16.9 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per game. She is second on the team with 1.9 steals per game and third with 1.9 assists per game.

Marissa Burke of Finlandia claimed the leagues' top prize of Player of the Year while Kisha Simpson of Agnes Scott captured the Freshman of the Year award. Finlandia's Terry Klemett received Coach of the Year honors following league-wide voting of his peers.

Marissa Burke of Finlandia (pictured at right) is a true Division III student-athlete, excelling at the highest level both on the playing courts and in the classroom. She led the GSAC in scoring at 18.4 points per game while also finishing second overall in free throw shooting percentage at 75%. Additionally, the senior forward from Matersmeet, Mich. recorded 7.7 rebounds per game, good for 6th overall. She also ranked third in both 3-point shooting percentage (35.2) and assists (59). To top it off, the senior will graduate in May with honors and a 3.94 GPA.

Kisha Simpson of Agnes Scott enjoyed an amazing freshman campaign for the Scotties that saw her rank inside the league's Top 10 in five major statistical categories. The 5'10" forward from Chicago, Ill. played 35.5 minutes per game for head coach Patricia Roberts, second-most of any player. Additionally, she snared 164 rebounds to rank 4th overall in the GSAC, and her 10.9 rebounds per game average was third-best. Simpson averaged a double-double per game by also contributing 11.3 points per game (9th in the conference) and her 44.4% field goal shooting checked in at 6th overall.

In his first season at the helm of the Lions program, Terry Klemett guided Finlandia to a 13-10 overall record and the top seed in the 015 GSAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Klemett came to Finlandia after serving the past three years as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach (2010-2013) at Michigan Technological University under Head Coach Kevin Luke. During his time at Michigan Tech, Klemett assisted the team to three straight winning seasons, two GLIAC North Division Conference titles, and a Sweet 16 birth in the 2013 National Tournament.
