Miller's huge three propels basketball to win

Winston-Salem, NC-Laramie Miller hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cap a huge fourth quarter comeback for the Salem Spirits to send their game with Hollins to overtime. In overtime, Salem pulled out an 86-83 victory. Mikayla Seivers and Quntashea Lewis had huge games for Salem. The Spirits improve to 2-6, while Hollins falls to 3-5.

Both teams had large leads in the game. Salem jumped out to a 27-19 lead after the first quarter. Hollins fought back in the second and held a 42-38 lead at the half. Hollins extended the lead to 6 after three quarters. They pushed their lead to 8 with less than 2 minutes to go in the game at 70-62. Salem went on a ferocious comeback, which included a steal by Lewis with 14 seconds left and a layup by Tamara Blanton.

After Jewell Parfitt made two free throws for Hollins the score was 72-69 with less than 10 seconds remaining. After Sabrina Shepherd missed a three, Blanton threw an outlet pass to Miller who shot and made a three-pointer to tie the game at the buzzer. Seivers netted 6 points in overtime as Salem pulled away for the win.

Seivers finished the game with 22 points and 4 assists. Lewis had another double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds. She also led the team with 6 assists and 3 steals. Miller hit 4 three-pointers and finished with 12 points. Shepherd finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Salem will host Greensboro on Wednesday at 7:30. The Pride squeaked out a 71-68 win against Salem in Greensboro on November 24th.
