Mikayla Seivers wins GSAC Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played December 7 – 13 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Mikayla Seivers of Salem won the weekly award.

Sophomore point guard Mikayla Seivers led the way for the Salem Spirits in their last week of contests before winter break. In an overtime victory over Hollins University, Seivers netted 22 points by going 7-of-12 from the field and shooting 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. She dished out 4 assists and pulled away 2 steals. In this overtime victory, Seivers scored 6 points in the overtime alone, and hit a half court buzzer beater to end the 1st quarter of play. In their last game before break against Greensboro College, Seivers helped pull the Spirits out of a 13 point slump after halftime bringing the Spirits to score 25 points in the 3rd period alone and holding Greensboro to 11 points. Seivers netted 10 points, dished out a team high 8 assists, and went 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.   

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
