Basketball Defeats GSAC Rivals

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team defeated their Great South rivals from Agnes Scott 69-57 today. Sabrina Shepherd, Mikayla Seivers, and Alexiahonna Bush all had strong games for Salem. The Spirits are now 1-0 in the Great South, while Agnes Scott falls to 0-1 in the conference.

Agnes Scott got out to a quick start and led 16-15 after one quarter. The Spirits took the lead in the second quarter with their highest powered offensive quarter of 20 points. They led 35-32 at the break.

Salem picked up their defense in the second half. They outscored the Scotties 34-25 in the second to put the game out of reach. Salem held a 38-34 lead on the boards.

Shepherd had one of her hottest games from the field as she finished with 24 points. Bush was an impressive 6 for 8 from the field for 16 points. Seivers finished with a double-double of 11 rebounds and an impressive 14 assists. Quntashea Lewis played most of the game with foul trouble. She finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds.

Salem will hit the road on Monday to play Warren Wilson in Asheville in non-conference action.
