Strong second half leads Salem to GSAC Semifinals

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team used a stong second half to defeat Wesleyan for the third time this season. The Great South (GSAC) regular season champions defeated Wesleyan 70-57 in the GSAC quarterfinals. Quntashea Lewis had 28 points and Sabrina Shepherd added 26 for the Spirits. Salem improved to 8-16 overall  and 5-0 against GSAC competition.

The two teams battled back and forth in the first half and the Spirits went into the break with a 34-31 lead. Salem came out hot in the third quarter and extended their lead to 12 heading into the fourth.  Salem extended their lead as high as 19 in the fourth.

Mikayla Seivers added 11 points for Salem, and led the team with 5 assists. Lewis and Shepherd each had a double-double. Lewis pulled down 13 rebounds and Shepherd had 12. Seivers, Lewis, and Hannah McBride all had 2 steals for Salem.

The Spirits will take on Pine Manor tomorrow in the semi-finals at 3:00. Pine Manor defeated Mount Mary 71-51.
