Salem, VA-The Salem College basketball team lost their first game of the season in the Jade Beamer Roanoke College Classic yesterday to the hosts of Roanoke, 80-63. Sabrina Shepherd scored 22 points and earned all-classic honors for her play. Dominique Cross came off the bench to earn a double-double. Salem falls to 2-1, while the Maroons improve to 2-1.

The first quarter was close as Salem was down by just two after one quarter. They were able to tie the game at 18 early in the second quarter, before Roanoke ended the first half with a 25-6 run. 

Cross led the team with 14 points and also grabbed 14 rebounds. Alexiahonna Bush pulled down 12 rebounds for Salem, while Tamara Blanton had 9 points. 

Salem will return to the road Tuesday to take on William Peace in Raleigh at 7:00.
