Averett wins first home game for basketball

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team fell in their first home game of the season to the Averett Cougars 85-63. Salem got into foul trouble early and Averett was able to get a strong lead. Mikayla Seivers led the Spirits with 21 points. Salem falls to 2-3, while the Cougars improve to 3-2.

After the early foul trouble, Averett was able to jump out to a 30-15 lead after the first quarter. they extended their lead to 52-32 at the half. The second half was much more even as Averett only outscored Salem 33-31 in the half.

Alexiahonna Bush led the Spirits with 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Sabrina Shepherd finished with 17 points, and Hannah McBride brought down 7 rebounds.

The Spirits return to road action this weekend when they travel to Piedmont for their first ever USA South game. That game will be on Saturday at 2:00 in Georgia.
