Basketball comes up just short in last game of 2016

Winston-Salem, NC-After falling by 31 points on the road at Greensboro on December 5th, the Salem College basketball team picked up their play and almost came away with an upset in a 63-60 loss to the Pride. Salem held a lead virtually the entire game until the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The Spirits were led by 28 points and 8 rebounds by Sabrina Shepherd. Salem falls to 2-7, while Greensboro improves to 4-5.

Salem jumped out to an early lead and held Greensboro to just 4 points in the first 7 minutes of the game. The Spirits led 16-8 after the first quarter. Greensboro took a 28-26 lead into the half, before Salem stormed out to a 10 point advantage in the third quarter. Salem led by 8 points late in the game before a couple key 3-pointers closed the gap for the Pride.

Alexiahonna Bush led the Spirits with 13 rebounds and she had a double-double with 11 points, and she had a team-high 3 blocks. MiKayla Seivers had 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Hannah McBride led the team with 3 steals and 7 assists. Aaliyah Webb pulled down 10 rebounds for Salem.

The Spirits return to the road when they play at Mary Baldwin on January 2nd at 2:00.
