Basketball falls in thriller with LaGrange

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team battled back from a 14 point deficit heading into the 4th quarter to come up just short in a 72-70 USA South loss to LaGrange. Sabrina Shepherd had 26 points and Mikayla Seivers had a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Spirits. Salem is now 2-3 in the USA South, while LaGrange improves to 3-2.

The first quarter was even at 17-17, before the Panthers took a 37-28 lead into the half. They extended their lead to 56-42 after 3 quarters. Salem fought back furiously in the 4th to tie the score and even take a 2 point lead, before LaGrange closed the deal at the end.

Alexiahonna Bush led the Spirits with 8 rebounds, while Seivers had a team-leading 4 steals. The Spirits return to USA South action tomorrow at 2:00 at home against Huntingdon.
