Basketball fell in regular season finale against Covenant

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team wrapped up their regular season in a back and forth affair where Covenant squeaked out the 86-83 win. Salem celebrated their two seniors, Sabrina Shepherd and Alexiahonna Bush, before the game. Shepherd led the team with 20 points and Bush led the Spirits with 9 rebounds and 5 blocks. Salem wraps up the regular season with a 4-10 USA South record and 7-17 overall record, while Covenant finished at 6-8 and 12-12. 

Shepherd is just 20 points away from reaching 1,000 career points in her three year career at Salem. She will get the chance to eclipse that milestone in the USA South Tournament as Salem has clinched the sixth seed. They will find out their first round opponent tomorrow.

The first half was a high scoring affair. Salem was on fire in the first quarter and took a 27-23 lead. Covenant took the lead into the half at 47-44. They extended their lead to 6 going into the final quarter. 

Mikayla Seivers added 20 points for Salem and led the team with 7 assists and 3 steals. Hannah McBride added 15 points and Shenell Pharr finished with 10 points for the Spirits.
