Basketball closes out season in USA South Tournament

Demorest, GA-The Salem College basketball team finished off their season in the first round of the USA South Tournament against Huntingdon at Piedmont College. The Hawks won the game 72-57. Sabrina Shepherd scored 19 points, which ends her career exactly at the 1,000 point milestone. Salem finishes the season with a 7-18 record, and Huntingdon advances to play Piedmont tomorrow.

The first quarter was close with the Hawks holding a small 16-13 advantage. They extended their lead to 9 at the half. Huntingdon took a 59-39 lead after 3 quarters.

Shepherd scored her 1,000th point in the final minutes of the game. She becomes the fourth Salem player to score 1,000 points, joining Kelsey Rector, Satavia Taylor, and Quntashea Lewis. Mikayla Seivers added 14 points. Hannah McBride led the team with 4 steals, while Seivers had 3 assists. Shepherd and Seivers each had 9 rebounds.
