Basketball Drops Road Game Against Penn State-Altoona

Harrisonburg, VA-The Salem College basketball team dropped their first game of the season in a neutral contest at the Eastern Mennonite Tournament. The Spirits comeback attempt fell just short as Penn State-Altoona held on for a 78-66 victory. Salem falls to 1-1 overall, while Altoona improves to 1-1.

Altoona jumped out to a 25-12 lead after the first quarter, before Salem outscored Altoona 23-16 in the second quarter to cut their halftime lead to 6. Over 2 quarters, the Spirits went on a 20-0 run to take a 42-41 lead. Altoona went on a 16-7 run of their own to close out the third quarter with a 59-47 lead. The Spirits were able to cut the lead to 6 twice in the final quarter, but Altoona held on for the win.

Sabrina Shepherd led the team with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Mikayla Seivers had 21 points and led the Spirits with 6 assists. Hannah McBride had a team-high 13 rebounds.

Salem plays their second game of the tournament on Saturday at 1:00 against Hilbert.
