Basketball Rebounds With Big Win Over Hilbert

Harrisonburg, VA-The Salem College basketball team rebounded from their first loss of the season with a blowout win in their second game at the Eastern Mennonite Tournament today. Salem's big third quarter led them to a 75-62 win over Hilbert. Sabrina Shepherd dropped 30 points in the win. Salem is now 2-1 overall, while Hilbert falls to 0-3.

Salem jumped out early with an 11-5 lead and then held a 13-11 advantage after the first quarter. Hilbert went on a run to start the second quarter and held a 25-20 lead, before Salem finished the half on an 11-4 run. The Spirits continued their run in the third quarter as they started the quarter on a 24-11 run and they held a 55-43 lead after 3 quarters.

Mikayla Seivers added 19 points and led the team with 6 assists. Tarryn Johnson had a strong night off the bench with 9 points and a team-leading 9 rebounds. Shepherd was an impressive 5 for 9 from three-point land.

Salem returns home on Tuesday as they host Roanoke in non-conference action at 6:00.
