Basketball dominates Meredith in first USA South game

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team opened up USA South conference play with a blowout win over Meredith. The Spirits dominated the third quarter on their way to a 75-52 win. Sabrina Shepherd led the team with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Salem is now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the USA South, while Meredith falls to 0-4 and 0-1.

Salem jumped out to a 14-11 lead after the first quarter and 30-25 halftime lead in a competitive half. The Spirits blew the game open in the third quarter and jumped out to a 50-33 lead. They continued to pile on the scoring in the final quarter.

Tarryn Johnson had a solid game with 8 points and 16 rebounds, and Mikayla Seivers had a team-high 22 points for Salem. Hannah McBride had 3 steals and 9 rebounds, and Shenique and Shenell Pharr each had 7 points. Seivers led the Spirits with 6 assists. 

Salem hosts their last home game of 2017 on Thursday at 7:30 against Randolph. They will play two road games the first week of December.
