Basketball Continues Hot Streak With Win

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College basketball team won their fourth game in a row in convincing fashion today at home. Salem defeated Mary Baldwin 86-45 for the season sweep. Tamara Blanton had a strong outing with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Salem is now 8-10 overall and 6-5 in the USA South East Division.

The Spirits jumped out to a 20-15 lead after the first quarter and then they exploded in the second quarter to take a 37-23 lead at half. They picked up their play in the second half as they outscored the Fighting Squirrels 49-22. 

Salem had four players in double-digits. Mikayla Seivers and Tyler Davenport joined Blanton with 17 points, and Sabrina Shepherd added 16 points. Shepherd had a solid 9 assists, while Hannah McBride led the team with 9 rebounds. 

Prior to the game, Head Coach Britni Mohney presented Seivers with a game ball as she scored her 1,000th career point this past weekend on the road. Seivers became the fifth Salem player to score 1,000 points as she joined Shepherd, Satavia Taylor, Q Lewis, and Kelsey Rector.

Salem will host Ferrum tomorrow at 2:00 in conference play.
