Spirits Play Greensboro Pride Close, Lose 65-76

Winston Salem, NC-  Salem put on another competitive effort in their second conference game versus the Greensboro College Pride, Saturday, December 1st.  In a hard-fought contest, the Spirits were unable to complete a 2nd half comeback, trailing eight points after being down 19.  The Pride were quick to answer with key 3 point shots from A'liayh Woods and Sabria Joseph. Spirits would end up losing 65-76.

Spirits had a trio of scorers in double digits through Tamara Blanton (19), Tyler Davenport (11) and Makalla Burnette (10) and were able to force critical turnovers in the 4th quarter as they fought to come back in the game; they ended up forcing the Pride into 17 turnovers for the game.

Coach Mohney continues to see improvement in the squad, as they get better game to game.  Mohney, "There was a new found confidence and energy in the team during this game.  With their third double digit scoring games this week, Makalla Burnette and Tamara Blanton helped lead the charge for the Spirits.  There was also an uplifting spirit as we saw a quite but loud return from Tyler Davenport who scored 11 points in just 12 minutes of play.  We have been putting together a solid 3 quarters in the last three games we've played this week.  Our focus now is to remember that the game is 40 minutes long, and 4 quarters.  When we can fine tune that one quarter; we are going to start seeing a shift in our season."

Spirits get a 10-day layoff to nurse nagging injuries, and prepare for final exams.  Their next action is December 11th at N.C. Wesleyan College.
