Spirits Compete Hard Against Falcons; Comeback Comes Up Short

Winston Salem, NC- Salem hosted conference opponent Pfeiffer Falcons Friday, December 14th at 4:00 pm. In a closely contested game, the Spirits were able to stay within striking distance throughout most of the game.  Salem was unable to complete their comeback bid, and fell in a final score of 61-76.

Tamara Blanton (17) and Tyler Davenport (13) combined for 30 points to lead Salem's offensive attack. The Spirits also competed well against the Falcons on the boards by securing 42 rebounds to Pfeiffer's 43, while being outmatched in size in the post. The Spirits outrebounded the Falcons on the offensive boards with 18 offensive rebounds, leading the attack was Senior player Aaliyah Webb with 11 rebounds.

Pfeiffer was led by A'Ma McClain who scored a game high 21 points and Kiara Anderson scored 14 points.  The Falcons shot over 40% from the field.

"We fought hard for the first three quarters.  It was a back and forth game, with it being 42-42 with three minutes left in the 3rd, we were showing we are contenders", Mohney stated. "At the end we began to make mental errors that slowed our game down and we sent them to the charity stripe too many times for Pfeiffer to take the lead.  We had  huge three point shots to swing the ball in our favor from Seniors Taylor Mabe adn Tamara Blanton. Once we can get the confidence in our scoring we can continue to be contenders and putting four quarters together!"

Salem's next contest is on the road, out of conference play, against Roanoke College. The game will be held Sunday, December 16th at 1:00 p.m. This will be the Spirits last game before heading home for Holiday Break.
