Salem Takes on Local Challenger, Piedmont International; Drop Contest 72-81

Winston Salem, NC- The Salem Spirits took a break from USA South conference competition, to battle Piedmont International University.  In a match that went back and forth with several lead changes, Salem was unable to crack the win column, in a final score of 72-81. Four Salem Spirits scored in double digits, led by senior Taylor Mabe who had 17 points shooting 100% from the free throw, and 46% from the floor.  Mabe also pulled down eight boards for the Spirits. Chaniece Moss had 14 points, Lauren Privette totalled 11 points, and Tamara Blanton chipped in with 10 points.

Coach Mohney, "It was a back and forth battle between the two teams with Piedmont out scoring in the first and third quarters; and Salem surging in the second and fourth.   I am continuously proud of the fight and determination the student-athletes have in each game they approach.  Piedmont International is an athletic team and we pushed ourselves in this contest to stay competitive.   We saw high scoring on our offensive end, now the defensive lock-down has to take place."

Piedmont International were led in scorering by Alysia McLeod who tallied 17 points and Noni Kuumba with 16 points. The Spirits were able to force the Bruins in to 22 turnovers for the game as they had 11 steals total for the game; led by Taylor Mabe with three. 

Spirits return to action Wednesday night, as they host Methodist University at 7:30pm.
