Salem, Ferrum Clash in Non-Conference Action on Wednesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After an 11-day break in action, due in large part to exams, the Salem basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday, December 15th, when it heads to Ferrum for a 6 p.m. clash.

The game marks the third of a four-game road stretch for the Spirits (1-6), who are in search of their first road win since claiming a 70-69 win at Meredith on February 10, 2018.

THROUGH SEVEN GAMES: Tyler Davenport leads the way for the Spirits in points with 72, 11 more than teammate Cree Bass, while Kyana Thomas is third on the unit with 56 points.

Davenport is tops on the Salem unit in free throws made (33-of-43), while Bass has converted 21-of-56 field goals to lead all Salem shooters. Bass is also the only Salem shooter with double-digit 3-point conversions (10), hitting 34.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Tamsi Echendu has proved to be a major force on the glass for Salem with a team-high 41 rebounds, grabbing 13 on the offensive front. Meanwhile, Thomas leads the way with 15 offensive boards.

Bass and teammate Alize Brooks have caused havoc for opposing offenses with 10 steals apiece and Lauren Privette has converted a team-high eight blocks for Salem.

ANALYZING THE PANTHERS: Ferrum (3-6) heads into the third all-time meeting between the two programs on a two-game winning streak after claiming wins over Virginia Wesleyan (76-64) and Eastern Mennonite (65-52) in succession. The triumph over Virginia Wesleyan on December 4th snapped a six-game losing streak for the Panthers, who are 1-1 at home this season.

The top scorers on the Ferrum unit are Kayla Cabiness (123 points) and Jacy Marvin (100), while Aisha Martin (96) and Cameron Hawkins (90) are quickly closing in on reaching triple digits on the season. Cabiness has hit 40-of-101 shots from the floor, including 18 from 3-point range, while ranking second in free throws made with 25.

Marvin is the top long distance shooter for the Panthers with 19 3-pointers and also ranks atop the leaderboards in free throws made (27). Teammate DeMeisha Canada has snagged 69 rebounds (51 defensive) to lead the way, giving her eight more than Hawkins, who has 61. Canada has also forced 17 steals, a team-high, while Martin has handed out 22 assists this season.

Ferrum and Salem last met on January 28, 2018 and the Panthers own a 2-0 lead in the all-time series.
