Laurinburg, NC-The Salem College lacrosse team played their first game in school history today at St. Andrews University. Allix Kean scored the first goal in school history with five minutes remaining in the first half. Salem fell 18-5. The Spirits are now 0-1 overall, while St. Andrews improves to 2-3.
The Knights jumped out to a 9-0 lead before Kean scored. St. Andrews held a 12-1 lead at the half. The Spirits held the Knights to just 6 goals in the 2nd half and scored 4 goals of their own.
Kean scored an additional goal, while Madison McCarthy also scored 2 goals in her first collegiate game. Cecily Wainschel also scored her first career goal. McCarthy led the Spirits with 5 shots. Kean had a team-high 3 ground balls. Hannah Ostlund played all 60 minutes in goal and had 7 saves.
The Knights held a 31-14 shot advantage. The Spirits host their first game at Salem in school history next Tuesday against conference rival Methodist at 3:30.
