AMHERST, Va — Salem College Women's lacrosse team defestes Sweet Briar 8-7 in a non-conference game Feb. 22.

This was a big win for Salem College Lacrosse team as their season is just beginning , but it was even a bigger because it was Emma Rose first collegiate win at Salem as the Interim Lacrosse Coach.

"The team worked tremendously hard, and battled against the elements to come out with a well fought well deserved win," Rose said. "As a team we are excited about make history for the lacrosse program."

Senior Cecily Wasinschel and first-year Teia Horton both scored two unassisted goals to help Salem come out on top, and goalie Hannah Ostlund had five saves.

 

Key  Goals:

1st (21:11) | Senior Logan Bowling scored the first goal for Salem College on a free position shot, to give Salem the lead 1-0.

1st (19:20) | Just shortly after Salem first goal of the game Senior Cecily Wainschel scored unassisted.

1st (17:21) | After the Vixen's received their first goal just minutes later Junior Sarah Loarca scored her first goal of the season unassisted.

1st (12:34) | After three straight goals by the Vixen's First-Year Teia Horton found the back of the net with her first unassisted goal of the season.

1st (11:57) | Not even a minute later Sophomore Makenzie Hester made her first goal of the season.

1st (06:14) | Horton scored her second goal of the day unassisted, to help Salem end the first half with the score of 6 to 4.

2nd (11:20) | After two straight goals by the Vixen's Sophomore Collette Valadimery breaks the tied game with a free position shot goal.

2nd (03:05) | Wainschel quickly found the back of the net again for her second unassisted goal of the game to help Salem College win.  

 

Game Notes:

  • Salem outshot the Vixen's 23-14.

  • Salem made 2 out of 9 free-position shots

  • Junior Goalie Hannah Ostlund had 12 saves

  • Salem College held a 22-16 advantage in ground ball and 14-18 clears compared to the Vixen's 11-17.
