Soccer loses 2OT heartbreaker to DII Barton

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team lost their first game of the season in heartbreaking fashion, as Barton College scored in double overtime with five minutes remaining to win 1-0. Paige Ketchum (Jacksonville, NC) finished with 8 saves. Salem falls to 3-1-2, and Barton improves to 3-2.

The game went back and forth all game long. Salem out-shot Barton, a NCAA DII team, in regulation 10-9, and Barton finished with a 13-11 shot advantage. Taylor Parrish scored for Barton in the 105th minute.

"We played a great 105 minutes against a good DII team," said Head Coach Jay Callahan. "It was a very even game, and the one difference was that they finished their best chance."

Tarryn Bundy (West Deptford, NJ) led Salem with 6 shots. Salem also had a 4-1 corner kick advantage.

The Spirits return home on Saturday at 2:00 when they take on West Virginia Tech from the NAIA.
