Soccer beats USA South Defending Champions

Raleigh, NC-The Salem College soccer team had a very tough weekend as they faced the two finalists from the 2013 USA South Championship this weekend. On Saturday in an even contest, the hosts from Meredith prevailed 1-0 over Salem. The Spirits came back on Sunday to defeat last year's USA South Champions from Piedmont College, 1-0. Salem improved to 2-1 overall after the weekend.

Morgan Canepa, Heather Huffman, Taylor Norman, and Nataly Mojica were all selected to the 2014 Meredith All-Classic Team for their play.

On Saturday, the game against Meredith was a back and forth game. Salem controlled much of the first half, and Meredith was able to take over in the second half. Meredith scored the lone goal of the game in the 60th minute for the win.

Against Piedmont, Salem had the run of play in the first half again, but this time they were able to score the one goal they needed. Tarryn Bundy scored in the 44th minute on an assist from Sawyer Ferguson. Kimmi Templeton came up with 6 saves to help secure the win for Salem.

The Spirits play their only home game of September on Wednesday against North Carolina Wesleyan.
