Tarryn Johnson wins Great South Soccer Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletics Conference announced the fall sports Players of the Week for all contests played September 8 - 14 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Salem's Tarryn Johnson captured Women's Soccer Player of the Week and Ashley Whiteshield of Pine Manor claimed Volleyball Player of the Week.

 

GSAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week – Tarryn Johnson of Salem

Johnson scored two goals this week to help Salem to a 2-0 week. Salem defeated two more USA South opponents this week. Johnson scored the second goal in a 2-0 victory at home against NC Wesleyan. She scored the opening goal for Salem in a 3-2 win at Greensboro College. Johnson is tied for first in the Great South with 5 total goals, and with 10 points so far this season.

 

GSAC Volleyball Player of the Week – Ashley Whiteshield of Pine Manor

Pine Manor 's first-year setter from Seward, Alaska enjoyed an outstanding week as she helped lead the Gators to a 2-1 record. Whiteshield collected a team-high nine assists and seven digs in a Tuesday night defeat at Lesley before leading the Gators to a pair of victories in a doubleheader versus Mass. Maritime on Saturday. In match one, she dished out 20 assists and tallied 8 service aces and pair of digs in a 3-0 victory. She followed that up with a 23 assist, 10 service ace performance in another 3-0 victory. Whiteshield finished the week with 52 assists, 19 service aces, 17 digs and five kills.
