Soccer opens GSAC play with a rout

Macon, GA-The Salem College soccer team opened their Great South conference play with a 6-1 victory at Wesleyan. Morgan Canepa scored twice for the Spirits. Salem improves to 1-0 in the GSAC and 7-2 overall with the win.

It took only one minute for the Spirits to get on the board. Tarryn Johnson scored on a Summer Rich cross for the 1-0 lead. Canepa scored her first goal 10 minutes later. She finished off the first-half scoring in the 29th minute.

Salem quickly got started in the second half. It took just 30 seconds for Sawyer Ferguson to finish a Johnson cross. Rich scored in the 50th minute from a Ferguson cross. Brooke Bukas close out the scoring for Salem in the 66th minute. Wesleyan scored on a penalty kick late in the game for their only score. 

The Spirits had a 35-4 shot advantage and a 12-1 corner kick advantage. Kimmi Templeton and Sarah Slates shared the win in goal.
