Ferguson wins GSAC Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference announced the fall sports Players of the Week for all contests played September 22 - 28 and, following voting by the league sports information directors, Sawyer Ferguson of Salem won Women's Soccer Player of the Week, Lauren Aikens of Agnes Scott collected Volleyball Player of the Week and the Scotties' Giulia Ghezzi  claimed Runner of the Week.  

 

GSAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week – Sawyer Ferguson of Salem

Ferguson scored four goals and had one assist to help Salem to a 2-0 week. The Spirits defeated Wesleyan on the road 6-1 and Ferguson notched one goal and an assist. The next day she had a hat-trick in a 5-4 win at Oglethorpe. The senior from Billings, Montana is tied for second in the GSAC with goals and leading the league in assists.

 

GSAC Volleyball Player of the Week – Lauren Aikens of Agnes Scott

Agnes Scott senior Lauren Aikens led the Scotties in a tough 3-0 battle with #3 Emory University on Friday. Aikens hit 6-for-18 (.167) and had 2 digs against the Eagles who are now 18-2 for the season. Aikens currently leads Agnes Scott with 128 kills and a .261 attack percentage. 

GSAC Cross Country Runner of the Week – Giulia Ghezzi of Agnes Scott

Junior Giulia Ghezzi crossed the finish line first for the Scotties for the third meet in a row at the University of North Georgia Invitational this weekend.  Among a field of mostly Division II runners, Ghezzi finished the 5k in a time of23:52 (7:42 per mile), good for 72nd place. Her pace was a significant improvement over the first two 6k's of the season.

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
