Soccer blows by UMPI to GSAC Championship

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team defeated the University of Maine Presque-Isle 8-0 in the Great South Semifinals to head to their third-straight GSAC Championship game. Jordan Lanier had a goal and an assist and Sydney Priest had two assists to lead Salem to the win. The Spirits broke the school record with their 17th win to move to 17-4 overall.

Tarryn Johnson got the scoring started in the 18th minute. Lanier scored in the 27th minute on an assist by Sawyer Ferguson. Kaci McDaniel scored three minutes later on a cross by Nataly Mojica. Kimberlee Templeton scored her first career goal in the 32nd minute on a cross by Lanier. Shelby Alfaro scored her first collegiate goal in the 45th minute. The Spirits took a 5-0 lead into half.

Salem came out on fire in the second half with two quick goals. Brooke Bukas scored two minutes into the half. Taylor Norman converted a Priest corner two minutes later. Becky Irvin finished off the scoring in the 64th minute on another assist by Priest.

Salem out-shot UMPI 37-4 and had a 9-0 corner kick advantage. The Spirits will take on Wesleyan tomorrow at noon in the Great South Championship.
