Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team had one of their best offensive games of the season in an 8-2 win against Eastern Mennonite. Maddie Crumpton recorded her first career hat-trick in the win. Salem improves to 6-3 overall.
Salem had the run of play in the first-half, but they were only able to take a 2-1 lead into the break. Martha Santos scored seconds after coming into the game in the 21st minute on a pass from Tarryn Johnson. EMU scored six minutes later off of a corner kick. Crumpton scored her first goal off of a Sydney Priest assist in the 36th minute. Salem held a 16-2 shot advantage at the break.
It didn't take Salem long to clean up their finishing, as they scored twice in the first minute of the second half. Jordan Lanier scored her first of two goals on an assist by Johnson in the 46th minute. Seconds later, Crumpton scored to give Salem a 4-1 lead. Lanier scored again in the 59th minute on a pass by Hannah Huskey. EMU scored on another corner kick in the 62nd minute.
Johnson scored in the 67th minute. Crumpton finished the hat-trick in the 74th minute, and Kayleigh Artise scored her first collegiate goal in the 84th minute on a pass by Shelby Alfaro. Salem held a 35-7 shot advantage and a 5-2 corner kick advantage. Kimmi Templeton and Sarah Slates split time in goal for the win.
Salem returns to action at home next Friday when they host West Virginia Tech.
