Hannah Huskey wins GSAC Soccer Player of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Great South Athletic Conference announced the fall sports Players of the Week for events competed September 28 –October 4 and, after voting by the league sports information directors, Salem's Hannah Huskey won the soccer award and Maya Lloyd of UC-Santa Cruz collected the volleyball honor.

GSAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week – Hannah Huskey of Salem

Hannah Huskey, a first year from Covina, California, scored two huge goals for Salem in the past week. She had the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win against USA South title contender, Methodist University. She also scored an important goal that tied the game with West Virginia Tech. The Spirits fell behind 2-1 in the second half against WV Tech, and were playing going against the wind and rain. Huskey hit a shot from outside of the 18 box into the top corner to tie the game. The Spirits went on to win the game in overtime.

 

GSAC Volleyball Player of the Week – Maya Lloyd of UC-Santa Cruz

Lloyd had her best outing of the season on Saturday, hitting .522 on 13 kills to keep the Slugs competitive in a loss at Occidental. She also contributed 7 digs and a pair of service aces. Earlier in the day she had seven aces in UCSC's win over West Coast Baptist. The seven aces was a season high for any player for the Slugs. For the day, Lloyd hit .488 with 22 kills and 9 aces.

 

 

The GSAC sports information directors nominate Player of the Week candidates and then vote on the top two nominees in each sport as selected by the conference office. Player of the Week voting occurs on Tuesdays and the weekly announcement of the winners is released each Wednesday morning.
