Soccer wins 4th straight GSAC Regular Season Championship

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team clinched their fourth-straight Great South Regular Season Championship with a 5-1 win against Agnes Scott. The Spirits celebrated seniors Jocelyn Evans, Jacqueline Hogg, Heather Huffman, Sierra Hutchins, Paige Ketchum, and Summer Rich during their game. This senior class has now won GSAC titles all four years.The Spirits improve to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the GSAC, while Agnes Scott falls to 7-9 and 2-2.

The Spirits jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 4th minute with a goal by Hannah Huskey assisted by Sydney Priest. The two teams went into the break at the same score.

Agnes Scott scored less than 30 seconds into the 2nd half to tie the score at 1. Salem would break the game open eight minutes later as they scored three goals in less than 5 minutes. Brooke Bukas scored the game-winning goal on a pass from Tarryn Johnson in the 55th minute. Martha Santos scored 3 minutes later on a pass by Jordan Lanier. Maddie Crumpton scored on a Santos assist less than a minute later. Kayleigh Artise struck a shot from 35 yards out in the final minutes of the game for the last goal to make it 5-1.

Salem dominated the stat-sheet. They held a 24-9 shot advantage, and an 8-1 corner kick advantage. Ketchum recorded 5 saves in the win in goal.

The Spirits will host Roanoke in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 4.
