Soccer finishes season undefeated at home

Winston-Salem, NC-In the pouring rain, the Salem College soccer team fought back from an early deficit to defeat Roanoke 2-1. The win finished an 8-0 undefeated home season record for the Spirits. Roanoke was coming off of a 2-0 upset over nationally ranked Christopher Newport this past weekend. The Spirits are now 12-2 overall, while Roanoke is 9-8-1.

Roanoke scored early in the match to take a 1-0 lead. Salem had several opportunities throughout the first half, but they could not finish and the game kept that score through halftime.

Brooke Bukas scored in the 63rd minute to tie the game up. The Spirits scored what appeared to be the game-winner close to the end of regulation, but the goal was disallowed. Bukas once again beat the backline of Roanoke in the first overtime and drove a ball over the goalies head for the golden goal.

Salem held a 21-16 shot advantage in the game. Paige Ketchum finished with 7 saves in goal. The Spirits hit the road to travel to Washington, D.C. for their final two regular season games of the season.
