Bukas selected as USA South Player of the Year

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2016 All-Conference awards for women's soccer. A total of 58 student-athletes have earned honors. Salem College's Brooke Bukas was named Player of the Year. Additionally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school.

All awards are voted on by the women's soccer coach at each institution. The divisional team voting is completed only by those coaches in the particular division. The all-conference and individual award voting is completed by all coaches.

Bukas, a Winston-Salem, North Carolina junior forward, becomes the first player in Salem women's soccer history to be named USA South Player of the Year. In Salem's first year in the League, she also becomes the first Spirit to collect a USA South individual award. For the year, Bukas as totaled ten goals and four assists for 24 points including three game-winning-goals. Each of her assists came versus Conference opposition along with eight goals. In games versus USA South teams who qualified for the League Tournament, Bukas scored eight goals and tallied three assists. For her efforts this season, Bukas was named First Team All-Conference, as well as First Team West Division as a forward. Finally, she was selected as USA South Player of the Week once this year.
