Winston-Salem, NC-Head Salem Soccer Coach Jay Callahan has moved up to the 28th overall current winningest coach in NCAA Division III soccer out of over 425 programs across the country. Salem's 18-2-1 record in 2017, broke a record for fewest losses in USA South conference play (over 30 years of action), and moved Callahan's overall record up to 142-55-10 (.710) over 11 seasons. 

Callahan's overall record would put him in 39th place in the all-time winningest coaches category, but his first two seasons Salem was a provisional member of the NCAA, so he will not be eligible until his 12th season.

After his first team went 1-15 in 2006, he led the 2007 team to a 15-1-2 record, and a NCAA DIII Independent Association championship. Over the past six years, Callahan has won 5 coach of the year honors, 5 regular season championships, 3 tournament runner ups and 2 conference tournament championships. The Spirits have also had numerous players win honors like conference player and rookie of the year, all-state, and all-region awards.

"I have been lucky to coach a great group of players throughout my career, and work with a tremendous coaching staff," said Callahan. "I look forward to this upcoming season as I think we could have one of our best teams yet."

The Spirits begin their 2017 season in Cincinnati at the Mt. St. Joseph Classic on September 2nd.
