Soccer falls in overtime to nationally ranked Lynchburg

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College soccer team held 2015 national champion's of Lynchburg College (currently ranked 8th/18th in nation) scoreless for 89 minutes before Lynchburg scored to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Hornets would score in the final two minutes of overtime to win on a golden goal. Salem falls to 4-2 and Lynchburg improves to 5-0.

The Spirits held Lynchburg's attack at bay through the first half, and the game was tied 0-0 at the break. Salem converted only the second goal scored on Lynchburg in the 71st minute when Jasmine Romero scored on a corner kick by Alyssa Denkovich. The Spirits held off Lynchburg for the next 18 minutes before the Hornets scored in the 89th minute. Lynchburg would win the game on their only shot of the overtime in the 98th minute. Hannah Bullock had 5 saves on Lynchburg's 7 shots on goal, while Salem had 3 shots on goal.

The Spirits hit the road next weekend to take on Waynesburg (4-1-1) and Chatham (5-1) in Pennsylvania.
