Soccer ranked in NCAA DIII South Region

Kansas City, MO-The Salem College soccer team is ranked 9th in the most recent NCAA DIII United Soccer Coaches South Atlantic Region poll. This becomes just the second time in Salem Athletic history that a program has been ranked. The NCAA DIII South Atlantic Region ranges from New Jersey to Alabama.

Salem is coming off a week where they won at Southern Virginia and then took Lynchburg to overtime, before losing 2-1. Lynchburg is currently ranked third in the region and 14th nationally. Salem is 4-2 overall, with both losses in tight games to regionally ranked opponents.

"It is great to get some recognition from the region, but that isn't one of our team goals," said Head Coach Jay Callahan. "Our team goals are to approach each game like a championship game and be the hardest working team on the field. We head to Pennsylvania this weekend for two tough road games, before starting USA South play next week, which won't be any easier."

The Spirits will play at Waynesburg (4-2-1) on Saturday and at Chatham (5-1), who is also receiving Great Lakes regional votes, on Sunday.
