Spirits fall to Covenant 3-1

Salem College Women's Soccer team fell short to Covenant College 3-1 during Saturday's home competition at Salem in non-conference action.  Covenant took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Addy Cronan scored an unassisted goal. Salem bounced back to tie the match at 1-1 in the 19th minute on a score from Maddie Crumpton into the bottom corner of the net assisted by Ellie Montes. Covenant responded quickly in the 22nd minute, it was Cronan again as she took a pass from Lizzy Hightower and found the back of the net with the score 2-1 going into halftime.

The Spirits continued to fire shots at the Covenant Goalkeeper, Rachel Lamey, who had a phenomenal game in net for the Scots with 13 saves.  At the 55th minute, Kailey Burrell for Covenant put the score at 3-1 with a shot into the bottom right corner.

Salem finished the game outshooting Covenant 30 shots to 20 but could not capitalize on the day. The Spirits will open up their conference schedule Sunday, Sept. 30th as they take on Meredith at varsity field at 2 pm.
