Salem, Ferrum Battle to 1-1 Draw

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Salem goalkeeper Hannah Wagner and her Ferrum counterpart Taylor Dodson closed with seven saves apiece as the two teams had their first tie of the season, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.

Wagner (2-1-1) faced eight Ferrum shots on goal over her 110 minutes on the field, while Dodson (4-0-1) was peppered with eight shots on goal by the Spirits.

Ferrum (4-1-1) took the early lead when Casey Raggett scored her seventh goal of the season on a breakaway at the 15:25 mark.

The Spirits (4-3-1) answered just over nine minutes later, at the 24:33 mark, when Martha Santos hit Amy Bounds for her second goal of the season. The goal provided Santos with her second assist, two off the pace established by Ellie Montes (four).

Montes attempted five of Salem's 17 shots on the afternoon, including three shots on goal. Santos had four shots on the afternoon, while Alyssa Denkovich and Baylee Greenwood closed with two shots each.

Salem made nine shots in the first half, while Ferrum closed with six. The Spirits also had three corner kicks on the afternoon.
