Salem, Meredith Open October Slate in Raleigh

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Salem soccer team will make the short trek to Raleigh on Tuesday, Oct. 1, to square off against USA South Conference foe Meredith at 6 p.m.

The Spirits (4-4-1) are looking to rebound from a 2-1 setback to Greensboro in their league opener on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Pride took advantage of a corner kick by Devin D'Agostin, which ricocheted off the feet of Keeley Catarineau before teammate Logan Schnabl punched home the game-winning goal at the 86:58 mark.

Salem heads into the final full month of action, which includes eight matches, led by the combination of Ellie Montes (10 points) and Amy Bounds (six). Montes and Bounds are tied for the team lead in goals, three, after Bounds drove home her third goal of the season and second in as many matches on a header against Greensboro.

Hannah Wagner leads the way for the Salem defense with 28 saves in net (.778 save percentage), resulting in a 2-2-1 mark on the season. Wagner has logged 534:57 minutes in goal, allowing just eight opponent scores along the way.

Meredith (1-8) is in the midst of an eight-match losing streak that dates back to a 6-1 setback to Shenandoah on Aug. 31. The Avenging Angels have been outscored 25-3 during the last eight contests.

Morgan Thomas and Lillian Fox are the only Meredith individuals with multiple goals in 2019, scoring three and two, respectively. Miranda Lutz (1-8-0) has logged all 810 minutes in net, allowing 25 goals while making 75 saves (.750 save percentage).
