Katlin Burns joined the Salem athletics staff in July 2018 as graduate assistant coach.

"Coach Burns was the one I knew I wanted to hire as soon as I took the job," Head Soccer Coach Octavia Saunders said. "She is a fantastic asset to my coaching staff and this program. Burns brings tremendous knowledge of the game and work ethic. We’re excited to bring her into the family.”

Prior to Salem, Burns served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at Gardner-Webb University during the 2017-2018 season. She also coached for the Greater Cleveland County Soccer Association (GCCSA) for two seasons and served as assistant coach for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy girls varsity soccer team.

Burns, a North Carolina native played at Brevard College for four seasons (2013-2017). She appeared in 61 games, starting 26 of them playing at forward/midfield her first three years. Burns captained the team her senior season while switching roles to defense to finish out her last year at Brevard. She graduated from Brevard College in May 2017 with a Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Science and is now continuing her education here at Salem College in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Special Education program.

“I was extremely excited to receive the call from my former Coach Ocky, offering me this wonderful opportunity to coach at the collegiate level as well as continue my education," Burns said. "I have known Octavia for a while and she when I was playing for her, I always said 'when you become a head coach just call me up and I’ll be there.' So here I am and I couldn’t imagine coaching alongside and learning from anyone else.”
