Wakefield, Stutzer & Black Post Three Top-10s at Greensboro Meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Allison Wakefield earned three Top-10s at a meet hosted by Greensboro on Saturday, Jan. 11, but the Salem swimming team fell in a series of clashes against Warren Peace (36-90), Warren Wilson (38-45) and Bridgewater (28-131) at the Reynolds Family Student Life Center Pool. Wakefield was one of three Salem competitors, along with Amy Stutzer and Rachel Black, to post a trio of Top-10 finishes.

Wakefield's best finish of the meet, fourth, came in the 1000 freestyle when she touched the wall in 16:08.64. She followed that with a fifth-place finish in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 1:18.31 in the process. Wakefield capped off the afternoon by placing seventh in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:39.32. With that trio of Top-10 outings, Wakefield has 15 Top-10 finishes on the season.

Salem also received a solid performance from Stutzer, who competed in her third meet of the campaign. Stutzer was fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:51.18 and quickly followed with a fifth-place performance in the 200 freestyle (3:13.83). Stutzer's afternoon also included a 10th-place performance in the 50 freestyle after posting a time of 38.96.

Black replicated the performance by Wakefield, earning a trio of Top-10s. The first-year swimmer closed out her third meet of the slate by finishing sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:22.98) and eighth in both the 100 backstroke (1:42.16) and 50 freestyle events (36.10).

Senior Kristen Kellogg emerged from the meet with her 12th Top-10 finish of the season, finishing seventh in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 3:57.49. Kellogg also took part in the 50 freestyle, where she finished 11th in a time of 53.47.

Salem returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 18, when the Spirits compete in a tri-meet that features Guilford and Greensboro on the Greensboro campus. For more information on Salem swimming check out www.salemspirits.com.
