Fullerton Posts Personal-Best Time in 500 Freestyle Event

ATLANTAMadison Fullerton highlighted the first day of competition for the Salem swim program at the Emory Last Chance meet on Friday.

Fullerton, who claimed her 12th Top-5 finish of the season, took part in the 500 freestyle event for the fourth time in 2023-24. Her performance at the Emory Last Chance Meet established her personal-best, which resulted in a time of 8:29.15.

Fullerton debuted in the event on November 17, 2023 in Raleigh, N.C., at the William Peace Invitational, where she posted a time of 8:48.09. After racing in the 500 freestyle at both the Hollins Dual (8:50.12) and the Salem Fast Chance Meet (8:53.42), Fullerton competed in the event on Friday afternoon at Emory.

The Winston-Salem, N.C., native streaked down the pool and established her personal-best time while finishing fifth. Emory's Meredith Liu took home first place in the event with a mark of 4:57.42, while Emily Shuttleworth (Wingate) and Ella Gutenwik (Catawba) were second and third, respectively.

The other highlight of the day for the Spirits came from the duo of Marabeth Huffman and Omega Pinnix. The pair put together a solid competition in the 50 freestyle that earned them a spot in the event's Time Trial Final on Saturday afternoon. Pinnix finished Friday with a time of 24.82, while Huffman touched the wall in 28.15.

"I am so proud of our team and am excited that we earned the invitation to compete at this level," said Lapham. "We looked good as a team tonight and held our own against the competition."
