Tennis wraps up regular season with a big win

Winston-Salem, NC-The Salem College tennis team concluded their regular season in dominating fashion with a 7-2 non-conference win against Virginia Wesleyan. Ashley Koehler, Deanna Wilkins, and Ayla Pruitt swept their singles and doubles matches. Salem finishes the regular season with a 7-7 overall record.

"I'm very pleased with the way our team played today," said Head Coach Kevin Fleck. 

Koehler and Wilkins joined forces to win a close 8-6 match at #2 doubles. Koehler won #3 singles and Wilkins won at #4. Pruitt won at #3 doubles with Allie Watkins, and she cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory and #6 singles. Kerri Morgan picked up a win at #2 singles and Samantha Story won a 3-set match at #5 singles.

Coach Fleck said,  "It was great for us to get the match in versus a tough Virginia Wesleyan team.  Our players fought through some difficult matches and played very well when the pressure was on. We are very excited to take on the GSAC tournament this weekend!"

The Spirits will play in the first-round of the Great South Tournament on Friday in Macon, GA.
