Tennis finishes memorable season in GSAC Championship Match

April 27, 2014

Decatur, GA-The Salem College tennis team capped off the program's most successful season with a trip to the Great South Championship Game. The team beat the tournament hosts from Agnes Scott 5-1 in the semifinals, but the Banana Slugs from UC Santa Cruz were too much in the championship game. Salem finishes the season with a 12-5 overall record.

Head Coach Kevin Fleck said about the semifinal match, "I am extremely proud of the way our team played. We competed our hearts out and played our best match during the biggest moment of the season thus far. Number 2 and 3 doubles kept their cool and played aggressively against difficult opponents. Samantha and Sabrina cruised through and made it look easy at number 5 and 6 singles. Andrea played outstanding at number 1 singles to beat a great opponent. Ayla and Ashley were playing some great tennis as they were leading in their second sets. Angela fought hard against a very good opponent that was playing the best match I've seen her play."

The Spirits will look to build on this season's success next year.
